Amidst complex and impassable negotiations, the order from the 6th Division of Piraeus to the fighters of the 1st Battalion (Tampourion) was given: ‘Hold on at all costs and safeguard at any sacrifice the Electricity Plant and the Mills of Agios Georgios.’
Simultaneously, Captain Nikandros Kepesis to the ELAS fighters: ‘To blow up the Electricity Plant, the German occupation force must pass over our bodies,’ the exhortation that became the caption of the communication among the Fighters…
…after a three-hour fierce, Heroic Struggle, the special explosives unit of the German army is crushed. Thus, the Electricity Plant was saved on the morning of October 13th, ensuring the power supply of the capital of Greece, the operation of the port and factories, the movement of the electric railway, and other facilities in the broader area. People flock to the plant. They embrace the Fighters. Even the wounded participate in this celebration of joy.
Memories of Substance, Responsibility, Courage, Honor, Dignity, Determination, and Fearlessness.
